GLOSSARY OF TERMS
TERMS | DEFINITION |
Line Break | When there is a sudden fluid leakage situation in the pipeline due to explosions and fractures other than planned, the line break sensor notices this rapid pressure drop. And sends the valve to the defined fail position. This feature is installed in the actuator according to the pressure drop rates determined by the customer. |
ESD | Emergency shut down switch is a mechanical switch. It’s very precisely tuned and calibrated. It works by pneumatic signal to the actuator.allowing the actuator go to the defined fail position under specified pressure. It does not allow the actuator to be operated without reaching the specified pressure. |
DPS | differential pressure switch: it is a mechanical switch. It’s very precisely tuned and calibrated. It works by giving the actuator a pneumatic signal. It cuts oppening signals to the actuator if the difference between the upstream and downstream pressure is greater than the adjusted pressure value. thus the actuator will stay on position until pressure differantial is equalized. |
RESERVOIR TANK | According to the specified number of operations, a backup gas tank that allows the actuator to operate using a specified amount of gas according to the specifications. in case of possible pressure gas suplay interruption contained gas in the reservoir tank allows actuator to operate. |
REMOTE CONTROL | actuators are fitted with valves which electrical properties suitable for the remote control system in order to intervene from the DCS to the actuator. These valves vary in the level of certification according to the project risk assesment. |
PARTIAL STORE TEST | It is also referred to as a partial stroke test, with the test command given to the actuator, the actuator moves in the direction of closing a certain amount (10%) while in an open position. Then it returns to the fully open position and if there is no problem during this movement, the test is recorded successfully. |
SCOTCH YOKE BODY | It is the mechanism that translates linear motion into circular motion. Due to the angular change of the moment arm, the torque curve coincides with the curve formed by the torques needed by the spherical valves, so it is especially used in spherical valves. |
CONNECTION FLANGE REQUIREMENTS | ISO 5211 is used to standardize the connection of actuators and valves to each other. This standard includes information such as the dimensions of the flanges and which flange will be used in which torque ranges. When selling actuator, the dimensions of the flange of the valve are needed. If the customer says ISO5211 F16 flange, we can get all the necessary measurements from the standard. If the valve has a non-standard connection, then it must be measured from the flange. |
HAND PUMP | Hydraulic Actuators open or close directly with hydraulic hand pump. |
SPRING (PNEUMATIC ACTUATOR) | Spring return actuators are generally used to go fail position defined. Spring-back actuators are often defined as emergecny shot down. Due to power loss spring will return actuator to fail position in short time. |
BTO | (Break to open) The torque value generated by the valve moving from the fully closed position to the opening direction. |
BTC | (Break to close) The torque value generated by the valve moving from the fully open position to the closing direction. |
RTC | (Run to close) The torque value of the valve when moving in a semi-open position |
Torque Limit Switch | It is the valve that prevents the actuator from working in case of high pressure or to prevent the torsion of the valve stem, stuck as a result of a problem in the valve. |
